On January 20, 2017, a man named James Gargasoulas killed three people and injured 20 after driving a car through Melbourne's Bourke street mall. Bourke Street is one of Melbourne's best-known streets for shopping and people watching. [8]

Gargasoulas turned onto Swanston Street at around 1:45p.m. and turned left into the busy Bourke Street pedestrian mall.
It then drove deliberately into pedestrians as it sped along the mall, with people leaping out of the way and running for their lives.
Perpetrator
Gargasoulas, the perpetrator of the Melbourne car incident is in custody. He is 26 years old and has a history of drug, violence and mental health issues, according to the police. [12]
Moments before the rampage, the man was seen doing donuts at a stop.
