Matthew Luckhurst (Police Officer)
Matthew Luckhurst (Police Officer)
Matthew Luckhurst is a police officer who was fired from the San Antonio Police Department for attempting to feed a homeless man a fecal sandwich. [1]
He had been a part of the force for five years.
In the last year he was assigned bike patrol in the downtown area of San Antonio, Texas. [1]
Fecal Sandwich
In May 2016, Luckhurst in a whim of pure haughtiness disclosed to another fellow police officer how he smeared excreta to a sandwich and enclosed it inside the styrofoam container, and placed it next to a homeless man.
The fellow officer told Luckhurst dispose the container carrying feces.
The officer claims that he saw Luckhurst go back to throw away the container and assumed that he did.
For awhile now police officers have tried to locate the homeless man and haven't seen him as his identity is not yet known.
The actions of Luckhurst were disclosed to Internal Affairs as another officer came through and reported the episode to his supervisor.
After the incident was presented to civilian and sworn review boards, they recommend that Luckhurst be suspended indefinitely.
Mayor Ivy Taylor has stated: "Firing this officer was the right thing to do... His actions were a betrayal of every value we have in our community, and he is not representative of our great police force." [undefined]
Luckhurt's attorney, Ben Sifuentes Jr., has said that Chief William McManus has a history of falsely firing officers.
His attorney is quoted as saying: "There have been several arbitrations that I've had where what he alleges in the suspension turned out to be false.
So let's not assume that what he says is true...
Number 2, there's no eyewitness.
No video camera showing what he alleges in fact happened.
I think when it comes to arbitration, we're going to prevail.
We're going to show this didn't happen the way the chief alleged."
