Career
Prior to KHOU 11, Matt spent his career as a news News presenter and investigative reporter at major network affiliates on the Gulf Coast of the United States and Texas-Mexico border.
His work in the last few years includes coverage of cartel violence in Mexico, border immigration, resuming of U.S.-Cuba relations, Hurricane Harvey, a high school mass shooting, the death of a former First Lady, the road to a World Series Championship and much more.
Legal Issue
Matt Dougherty joined the WINK News team in 2014 and has since helped the weekend newscasts achieve ratings double that of WINK's competitors with award-winning reporting on complex issues.
Coworkers call him "Hollywood" because he looks like a GQ model.
Dougherty soon discovered documents belonged to a neurologist named Gerardo Gamez (whose relationship to the storage owner, Maria Gamez, is unclear.) He emailed Russ Kilgore, the news director at Wink News.
Out of nowhere, Kilgore killed the story.
Following some arguments about the right not to disclose some confidential document, WINK, slashed the salary of Matt and afterwards sacked him.
The company claimed that he was sacked because he didn't show up at work on 28th and 29th of July, 2915.
“I was shocked and sick to my stomach when they fired me without a reason.
I had two years left on my contract.
How could I explain to another potential employer what happened?"
Meanwhile, evidence proved that he was sacked on the 27th of July, 2015.[3]
Personal
Matt is quite a selfless person too.
In August, 2019, he single-handedly help rescue a dog stolen from a family during road trip.
The Mathias family were on their way back to Fort Worth when they decided to stop for a bite to eat.
They were in New Caney, Texas area — just outside of Houston — and stopped at a local restaurant. They tied Lucy's leash to a tree in the shade, expecting her to be safe. Moments later, their worst nightmare unfolded. A woman untied Lucy, dragged her to a truck and drove away. The family was devastated. When Matt laid his hands on the surveillance footage, he tracked the plate number of the vehicle of Lucy's abductor. He successfully reunited Lucy back with her family.[2]
