Matea Gold is an American reporter at the Washington Post covering campaign finance and politics. She was formerly a political reporter for the the Washington bureau of the Los Angeles Times.

She joined the Times as a reporter in 1996 and spent nearly a decade covering national and state politics as well as writing about the media.
Matea began her career at the Los Angeles Times as a beat reporter covering East Los Angeles. From 2005 to 2010 she was based in New York office of the Los Angeles Times, where she reported on the changes remaking television media. She also wrote about immigration and gangs, and produced a three-part series about compulsive gambling.
She gained attention in April 2016 when she uncovered the lavish tricks that presidential delegates use to sway delegates in their favor.
She has documented how run-of-the-mill political fundraisers have felt sidelined as politicians have courted billionaire super PAC contributors, and how Clinton Campaign donors flocked to the presidential Super Bowl games.
