Mary Bubala

Mary Bubalais an Emmy Award winning anchorwoman based in Baltimore, Maryland.

She is a former anchor at WJZ-TV who was fired in May 2019 after she appeared to link ex-Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh's resignation to her race and gender.

Education

Bubala graduated from Ithaca College in 1991 with a degree in broadcast journalism.

Career

She began her career in upstate New York upon graduating from Ithaca College in 1991.

In June 2016, she was nominated for a regional Emmy for her coverage of the Freddie Gray riots and was awarded a regional Emmy for Outstanding Anchor.

In 2016, she was named Best of Baltimore News Anchor.

Controversy

In May 2019, she received backlash for asking a question surrounding the race, gender and leadership abilities of the city’s recent mayors that some viewers deemed racist and sexist.
