Mark Van Dongen was an engineer born in the Netherlands who lived in Bristol, United Kingdom. In September 2015, His ex-girlfriend Berlinah Wallace attacked him with acid. The attack caused him to undergo euthanasia in January 2017.

Before the attack, Mark Van Dongen had been in a five year relationship with Berlinah Wallace, who was a part-time Fashion student at the University of the West of England in Bristol, United Kingdom. The pair had split a few weeks before the alleged attack in September 2015 with the victim moving in with his new girlfriend, Violet Farquharson. ^[1]

On September 23, 2015 Berlinah Wallace allegedly threw sulfuric acid over her ex-boyfriend Mark Van Dongen's face and body after telling him: “If I can’t have you, no one else can.” He suffered 15 months of pain before being granted euthanasia in Belgium, where his family lived, in January 2017. ^[1]

In April 2018, Berlinah Wallace was on trial in Bristol Crown Court for murder and applying a corrosive fluid with intent.
