Education
Oi attended Keio University from 2001-2002, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and media studies. [9]
She then attended RMIT University from 2002-2004, receiving a bachelor of Communication [9]
Career
Mariko started her career in 2005 as an Assistant Producer at Thomson Reuters. From June 2005 to November 2006 she worked as a Producer at Bloomberg Television.[9]
Since joining BBC as a reporter in 2006, she has covered major breaking news such as the Japan earthquake in 2011, US debt crisis in 2013, migrant crisis in 2015 and President Obama's visit to Hiroshima in 2016. [9]
In October 2015, she was one of the main presenters for the channel's special series on Japan, focusing on Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's Women economics policies in Working Lives and hosting a debate programme Talking Business.
In 2013 and 2016, Mariko spent total of 6 months in New York as a business correspondent where she reported from the New York Stock Exchange. [9]

She is married and has two young children.
