Maria Shim is a Director on the Corporate Development team at Google working on the evaluation, negotiation, and execution of Google's mergers, acquisitions, and investments. She is was also Google's first Investor Relations Manager.
Early Life
Maria is originally from San Francisco, California. Her father, Yoon Jim Shin owns Peters Mechanical, commercial refrigeration dealers in San Francisco. Her mother retired as the manager of Meaders Cleaners, a dry cleaners in San Francisco.
Maria is a graduate of Lowell High School, a magnet school in San Francisco. While at Lowell she was involved in Junior Statesmen of America (JAS). While in JSA, she served first as Director of Activities for the Northern State in fall of 1995, Assistant Convention Coordinator in the spring of 1996, and then won the election for Northern State Governor, serving from 1996-1997. She also served on the Board of Trustees the year that she was Governor. [1]
Maria attended the UC Davis Symposium in 1995 and Georgetown University Summer School in 1996. She was Assistant Speakers Program Director at Georgetown in 1997 and ran the Speakers Program at Stanford University in 1998. [1]
Personal Life
Maria Shim is the wife of Nicholas Fox, who works as a Product Manager at Google. On August 25, 2007 the couple got married at Beltane Ranch, an inn in Glen Ellen, California.
Maria is currently a Trustee on the Advisory Board for the Junior Statesmen Foundation. [1]
She is a supporter of the Democratic Party (US) and donated $64, 358 to Democratic candidates and Political Action Committees in 2016. In 2014, she donated $22,800 and in 2012 she donated to $3,500 to PACs and campaigns related to the Democrats.
Career
Maria Shim is currently a Director on Google's Corporate Development team. In this role, she works on the evaluation, negotiation, and execution of Google's mergers, acquisitions, and investments. She has worked on deals such as the acquisitions of Nest, Dropcam, Adometry, and Channel Intelligence. Maria also leads outbound Mergers and Acquisitions initiatives and the Entrepreneurs@Google effort.
Prior to this role, she joined Google as its first Investor Relations Manager and was responsible for investor and analyst communications, building and maintaining Google’s relationships with shareholders as well as managing all investor events. During her tenure, she was the recipient of the first and second annual Google CFO Awards. [1]
Education
Shim studied at Harvard University from 1997-2001 and graduated cum laude with an A.B. in Economics. She also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. [1]
