In the Media

In her viral Tik Tok video, Smith strums a ukulele, switching between chords before abruptly breaking out into a nervous and cathartic screech. The song is meant to depict the pent-up frustration people are feeling in the wake of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown measures around the globe. After going viral on Tik Tok the Smith and her song were covered by publications including Today.com, Yahoo! News, and The Poke. [1] [3] [2]

Smith said:

"So I started making TikToks around early March, I didn't really start making the regularly until my school decided that we were going to go to distance learning, but with this particular TikTok I remember being very frustrated with the way distance learning had been going so far and the original plan was to write a song that had words, but really all that came out was screaming."[6]

In her viral video, Liz explains:

"As some of you guys might know, I'm a music teacher, and I've found that one of the best ways that I can process the whole transition to online learning and teaching is to write a song.

So, I wrote a song, and I'd like to share that with you guys now.

Here we go."[1][3]

The video has up to 20,000 likes and was even shared by author Brené Brown, who wrote:

"God bless the teachers.

I love them so much."[1][3]

Smith says the teacher colleagues have told her they appreciate the video too:

"They've loved it, all the teachers that have talked to me or have commented on my post, they've said thank you this is absolutely relatable, you've put into words how I feel about online teaching too, and I'm glad that I was able to express how they're feeling as well."[6]

Among people, who reposted the video on Twitter, there are Mark Ruffalo, Nick Harvey and Trey Callaway.[2]
