Makayla Chang was a 16 year-old teenager from Nanaimo who had been missing from her hometown for several months. ^[0]

Makayla was born and raised in the area of Nanaimo near Vancouver. Since the age of three years old, her grandmother raised her in her Nanaimo home. She grew up being often referred to as "Kay". ^[3]

She had been attending school in the town for most of her life.

Chang was a previous student of John Barby Community School.

She was later enrolled at Cedar Secondary.

She also attended Nanaimo Ladysmith Schools for some time too.

On March 17th, 2017, on just like all of her previous days, she left home to attend school and she was never seen again since.

For a few days people believed that she was actually staying with a man named Steven Bacon just south of Nanaimo.

Ultimately, the family of Kay the police and an missing person report was issued on March 22nd.

When the cops began their search and went over the home of Mr. Bacon, they did not find her there.

And, neither did they find Mr. Bacon.

On April 6th, 2017, Mr. Bacon was found and was questioned about the whereabouts of Kay.

After interrogating and questioning Steven Bacon, the authorities were convinced that he was not involved in Makayla missing.

He was later deem as not a person of interest nor a suspect.

On May 18th, 2017, Makayla's remains were found and retrieved for further investigation.

The RCMP have said they are ruling her death a homicide.

Spokesperson for the police would not reveal where the body was found.

The report indicates that she might travelled as far as Montreal. ^[5]
