Lucia McBath was raised by a family of precipitous status in the justice system.
Her mother was a registered nurse, and her father served in the US army dental corps.
and was president of the of the NAACP for 20 years in the state of Illinois.
He worked with Lyndon B. Johnson in drafting the civil rights act of 1964.
[20]She was the mother of Jordan Davis, who was shot and killed at a gas station in Jacksonville, Fla., on November 23, 2012, during an argument over loud music.
The shooter used Florida’s stand-your-ground law as his defense.
He was not found guilty of murder in his first trial.
In an October 2014 retrial, the shooter was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.
A frequent speaker and presenter on gun control, McBath is a national spokeswoman for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, in addition to being the organization’s faith and outreach community organizer.
