Early Life
Curanaj was born and raised in the Bronx, New York to Albanian immigrant parents. She was one of five children and her parents stressed to them the importance of education and hard work. Curanaj attended private school and graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School.
Education
Curanaj received a full scholarship to attend Iona College where she studied mass communication and media studies. She worked at Lord and Taylor during her time in school. Curanaj graduated summa cum laude from their honors program. While in college, Curanaj had several internships Random House, Rolling Stone, and The View with Barbara Walters.
Career
After graduation, Curanaj landed a job at CBS News working alongside the likes of Dan Rather, Bob Schieffer, and Ed Bradley. She later moved to South Carolina in 2004 to pursue her true dream of becoming an on-air reporter. In 2009, Curanaj moved back up to the New York metropolitan area to work at News 12 Westchester. Curanaj joined the FOX 5 network as a General Assignment Reporter in 2011 and has covered major stories such as Hurricane Sandy.
Curanaj is the first Albanian-American to enter the field of reporting in the United States. She is the winner of two Emmy awards.
In 2012, she was honored by the Albanian American Women's Organization for "elevating the image of Albanian women in the U.S."
Personal Life
In her free time, Curanaj enjoys reading about current events and reading fiction and non-fiction stories.
Her favorite genre of music to listen to is Country.
Lidia is active in the Albanian-American community. She is a die-hard New York Yankees fan while her husband Victor is a New York Mets fan. They reside with their children in Hartsdale, New York.
