Major Lee Berra was a 32-year-old pilot in the United States Airforce. He was married and had a dog. [2]
Career
Berra joined the Airforce in 2007 and was also a licensed commercial pilot.
During his 10-year career, Berra flew 2,599 military flight hours in 30 different aircraft, with 2,270 in the supersonic B-1 Lancer, the release said.
From 2010 through 2015, Berra was assigned as a B-1 pilot at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota. Recently, Berra was reassigned to Edwards Air Force Base to attend the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School, where he graduated in June of 2016. [5]
Death
On January 26th, Berra was in his 3rd week of his 14-week pilot instructor training program when the civilian plane he was piloting crashed hundreds of feet from the runway at Stinson municipal airport in San Antonio, Texas. Authorities are investigating the incident [4]
