Laura Whitehurst
Laura Whitehurst
Laura Whitehurst (born 1985) is a sex offender and former high school teacher at Citrus Valley High, from Redlands, California.
Child Sex Convictions
Beginning in 2012, Laura Whitehurst had a year-long relationship with a 16 year old student of hers while Laura was 29 years old. Whitehurst supplied the teen with alcohol and told him that she wanted to kiss him while on a school trip to Disneyland. In July of 2013, Whitehurst was arrested for allegations of sexual assault. She had given birth to the child of her 16 year old student in May of 2013.
Whitehurst was jailed just two months after giving birth to the baby girl and served six months of a year-long sentence after a plea deal.
Had it not been agreed she could have faced 29 years in prison on 41 child sex abuse charges.
The student and Whitehurst share custody of their daughter who is now three years old.
In addition to the sixteen year old student, Whitehurst performed oral sex on two other teenage students, some as young as 14.
It was only once she was arrested that the two other pupils came forward and reported the rape.
One reported receiving "a blowjob at 14" by Whitehurst.
The Defendants' Lawyer, Vince Finaldi, stated: "the evidence we were able to deduce against the district of its knowledge that this was going on and its complicity was so voluminous, they had no choice but to settle the case.
It was that bad."
Settlement
The sixteen year old boy, who is only known as John BB Doe, won a settlement for $6,000,000 on August 20 of 2016.
Whitehurst formerly taught English at Citrus Valley High, Redlands, California, but is now a registered sex offender for life. This will prevent her from teaching children in the future.
The student had told a court that he had been left traumatised by Whitehurst claiming she loved him and wanted to spend the rest of her life with him.
She reportedly gave him a bible at age 17 and would take him to church on weekends.
School administrators claim the payment is not an admission of guilt and was simply to protect the reputation of the district, despite the evidence of their knowledge.
They hope the settlement will remove any culpability from the school district, since police were involved and Laura deliberately circumvented the law.
