La Guerra de los Sexos (TV show)

La Guerra de los Sexos (TV show)

La guerra de los sexos (The War of the Sexes) is a television program of the genre of contests produced and broadcast by the television network Venevisión, which was created, produced, directed and evaluated by Ricardo Peña; it was initially released in 1985 under the title "Las olimpiadas de los Sexos" (The Olympics of the Sexes) although it was later re-launched in 1996 and 2000 under the title with which it is internationally known, being produced by Peña until 2009, continuing after the death of Ricardo Peña. It began as a 3-hour content block broadcast on Súper Sábado sensacional, and then continued on Saturdays until 2009 when it became an independent 2-hour a week program.

History

Las Olimpiadas de los Sexos (The Gender Olimpics) (1985,1996)

In the year 1985, the famous contest was launched under the name "The Olympics of the Sexes" under the direction of Amador Bendayán, where the stars of the channel competed with each other to see which was the best team of both genres, the segment did not obtain the expected indexes so it was removed from the content of Súper Sábado Sensacional, in 1996 the contest was again reopened, under the direction of Gilberto Correa, this time two teams composed of a television star along with the public of the program competed for the final win multiple prizes.

Relaunch of the Program (2000,2002)

On September 2, 2000, once again, Súper Sábado Sensasional decided to re-launch the competition, this time under the title "La Guerra de los Sexos", thus starting the "segments" stage.

This time under the direction of Daniel Sarcos and Viviana Gibelli, at first both would only share the animation of the segment for a month, because Gibelli was a guest while Viviana was conducting her show at midnight and the original idea was that several female figures of the artistic environment would conduct the program along with Sarcos, however when she saw the reception and acceptance of the interaction of Daniel and Viviana, Ricardo Peña (creator of the program) convinced her to sign a contract to animate with Sarcos until the expiration of the segment's contract.

At first the winning team obtained a bonus check that they could donate to some organization while the losing team was punished; the program had its own set and began to gain fame as Venevision invited big stars from other countries to participate in the program.

By 2002, it had already gained a lot of fame nationally, the segment began to be broadcast as an independent program on Hispanic television, and Super Sábado sensational increased the segment's schedule by 4 hours.

International Recognition (2002-2004)

In the years 2002, 2003 and 2004, it was already very successful and internationally known.

La Guerra de los Sexos was often crowded, during the transmission of the San Sebastian Fair in San Cristobal and the Orchid Festival in Maracaibo from the monumental in front of more than 25,000 spectators, and other state fairs where for some years in addition to the shows there was a 3 hour short of the segment.

This was the first segment held outside the studios of Super Sábado Sensacional.

Second Generation (2010-2014)

In 2010, Daniel Sarcos withdrew from the animation of Super Sábado sensacional and La guerra de los sexos, due to new projects he had in the Dominican Republic and Ecuador.

Sarcos proposed to the production that he would return on the indicated days of the filming of the program but Venevision flatly refused, stating that it would be a violation of Sarcos' contract.

As of April 11, 2010, the program changes its schedule to Sundays at the same time, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (Venezuela time).By

2014 the program will be reduced and its recordings will be delayed due to political events that occurred in the country, having to re-broadcast some programs from 2012 and 2013. In

that same year, after the death of Venevisión's variety producer, Joaquín Riviera.

End of the Show (2015)

By March 2015, a new restructuring will take place, including the search for a new presenter, since the conductor Winston Vallenilla became president of the state channel TVes, although he commented that he would continue to conduct the program.

In 2014, the program's host Viviana Gibelli publicly announced through an interview in the newspaper "El Universal" that the program would be taken off the air due to "strictly" economic problems, stressing that she would have loved to say goodbye to her audience and not ruling out that there could be a new season with another host in the future.

That same year, Winston Vallenilla, who was the program's host and now president of TVes, confirmed that the television station would premiere the program "En mi casa mando yo" as a version of the program, of which they had acquired part of the props and set design, but Venevisión "threatened" Vallenilla for the rights to the program, which is why it never aired.

Format

The program begins with the presentation of the two teams of competitors.

Each team is composed by three men and three women (Actors, Singers, Characters, Bands); In the presentation of the Gibelli and Sarcos program they present one by one their competitors of the day and then they explain the tests and challenges that the participants should face in the program.

The presentation took place in some inflatable stage or vehicle being from 2000 to 2002 the use of The Sensational Bus from which the presenters and competitors got off but from 2003 inflatable games were used: A slide (2003), a boxing ring (2004), a giant dragon (2005) and a castle (2006), in 2009 the vehicles return being used a toy train for that season and tractors in the following ones.

The dynamics of the program from 2000 to mid 2004 consisted in that in each game the winning team obtained 100 points and in the challenges 200 points, in case of ties half of the points were given to both teams and at the end of the program the team that had won the most points won while the loser was punished: The Shower of Shame (2000-2002), The Punishment of the Foam (2003) and The Punishment of the Showers (2004).

Since July 2004, the point system has been eliminated to use the Skyscraper method where instead of points, competitors after winning a game were entitled to choose one of the 10 keys to be used at the end of the program to determine the winner.

In cases of ties, a die (marked with pink/female sign and blue/male sign) was used to decide who won the key.

At the end of the program, the teams used the keys they had won throughout the program to operate any of the 10 locks in the skyscraper, of which the team that operated the lock whose elevator reached the top of the skyscraper won the program.

This method was used to make the results of the program more varied, since the team with more keys would have the opportunity to operate more locks, although the team that had fewer keys could win, since only one lock would give the victory.

In 2006 the system of The Skyscraper is left aside to use The Doors of War where as in the skyscraper: The teams won keys during the whole program to try to open the doors of the final game where behind one of the 10 doors was the logo of the program, whoever opened the door with the logo would automatically give the victory to his team, also a spinning top marked with pink and blue was used to untie some ginkanas.

In 2009, the Skyscraper was used, which had not appeared since the 2005 season.

For 2010, a method similar to the skyscraper is used, although it consisted of whoever put together the name of the program on a giant screen would give his team the victory.

In 2011, an improved version of the skyscraper is used where whoever hits hardest with a sledgehammer reaches the 12th floor of the skyscraper.

In 2012 the classic point system is applied although more or less 100 points are played, in addition to the "Strepito" where at the end of each ginkana the participants could win or lose points depending on the challenge.

In 2013 returns the skyscraper of the war of the sexes where the teams must discover the elevator that arrives to the 12th floor, this system was used in 2004-2005 and in 2009.
