Kenneth A. Kavajecz is the former Dean at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at the Syracuse University. He was dismissed in September 16, 2016 after a prostitution scandal.
Career
Kenneth Kavajecz became the Dean at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at the Syracuse University in July, 2013. As Dean in 2014, his most recent public tax filing he was paid $496,449 with base compensation of $444,305.
He was also a professor of finance at the college.
As a professor he had a rating of 4.2 out of 5 on Rate My Professors, where students rate the quality of their professors.
Kenneth has also worked as an Independent Director at Heartland Funds since 2008.
Prior to coming to Syracuse University in July 2013, he was a professor of finance and served as the chairman for the department of finance, and the associate dean of both the undergraduate program and the full-time MBA program at the Wisconsin School of Business in the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Previously he was the Assistant Professor of Finance at the Wisconsin School of Business.
Kenneth also worked as Assistant Professor of Finance at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. [1]
He has served as a member of the Economic Advisory Board for the National Association of Securities Dealers and has worked at an Assistant Economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.
Prostitution Scandal
On September 13, 2016 Kenneth Kavajecz was arrested for patronizing a prostitute in Salina, New York a suburb of Syracuse, New York during a prostitution sting by the Onondaga County sheriff's office.
He was ticketed for a misdemeanor of third-degree patronizing a prostitute. He is due Sept. 29 in Salina Town Court.
Due to the scandal he was removed from his position as Dean of the Martin J. Whitman School of Management and put on administrative leave.
Statement by Vice Chancellor and Provost Michele Wheatly
"Vice Chancellor and Provost Michele Wheatly today announced that, effective immediately, Kenneth Kavajecz, will no longer serve as dean of the Whitman School of Management. He has also been placed on administrative leave from his faculty position until further notice. During this time of transition, leadership will be provided by Vice Chancellor J. Michael Haynie, a tenured faculty member in the Whitman School and executive director of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families. Provost Wheatly and Vice Chancellor Haynie will meet with the Whitman community this Friday, Sept. 16, at a time and place to be announced, to discuss future interim leadership of the Whitman School."
Awards
Dr. Kavajecz’s is an expert on financial market liquidity, trading, risk management, market structure and regulation. His research publications have appeared in many top academic journals including the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics and the Review of Financial Studies. His academic awards include the 2000 Financial Management Association best micro-structure paper for “Liquidity Provision during Circuit Breakers and Extreme Market Movements” and a nomination for the Smith Breeden Prize for the Best Paper in the Journal of Finance in 2005 for “Price Discovery in the U.S. Treasury Market: The Impact of Orderflow and Liquidity on the Yield Curve.”
In addition, Dr. Kavajecz has been awarded numerous MBA teaching awards at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, including the Gaumnitz Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award in 2008 as well as the David W. Hauck Award for Outstanding Teaching in the Undergraduate division at the Wharton in 1998 and the Doctoral Teaching Award at Northwestern University in 1996. [1]

Dr. Kavajecz holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an M.S. and Ph.D. in finance from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. [1]
