Julia Scotti born (June 1, 1952) in Fairview, California, NJ, is a National touring comedian who made headlines on America's Got Talent for not only being one of the oldest contestants the show had ever seen but for also revealing herself as transgender. She made it to the quarterfinals.
Early life
Scotti is from Fairview, New Jersey, and was born and raised there. She has an elder sister. Her parents divorced when she was six years old.
Personal life
Julia Scotti is transgender though born biologically male. She bore the name Ricki Scotti for the first 28 years of her life before her transition to become a female. She decided to return to college to become a schoolteacher and begin her transition from male to female, in the same period.
Scotti got divorced and had to fight for rights to custody of her son and daughter, whom she did not see for about 14 years and the court eventually granted her. She has since reunited with both of her children.
Career
Scotti started comedy at the age of 28 when she was still Rick Scotti.
She remained Rick Scotti for more than a decade before beginning another chapter in her life.
She was a stand-up comedienne act from Season 11 of America's Got Talent and got eliminated in the Quarterfinals
Scotti has appeared on Comedy Central and was named a top 5 transgender comedian of 2012 by Advocate Magazine.
She became the first transgender woman and finalist to compete at the New York City Based Ladies of Laughter Competition.
In 2000, Julia stepped out of comedy and returned in the year 2011.
In 2014, she was one of the winners of the Laughlin Laugh Festival in Nevada, and she has been named one of the Top 5 Transgender Comedians in the country by The Advocate.
Scotti does comedy, not just to earn a living or fame, but as something she enjoys doing.
She once expressed her pleasure in being a comedian, by saying she would love to die on stage.
Currently, Julia performs all over the country and is a regular at Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas, The Borgata, Atlantic City, New Jersey, and many more.

She appeared on the original comedy Central and was the winner of Showtime’s Funniest Person in America's contest for New Jersey, losing the finals to Ellen DeGeneres.
