Joshua D. Brown was a resident of Stow, Ohio. He attended Franklin Regional High School and later University of New Mexico.

Brown was a former United States Navy Seal. He was an avid YouTube blogger, who would post videos with his adventures using Tesla Motors self-driving technology.

On May 7, 2016 Brown was killed when his 2015 Model S drove under the trailer of an 18-wheeler on a highway near Williston, Florida. ^[1]

The crash occurred when a tractor-trailer rig made a left turn in front of the Tesla at an intersection of a divided highway where there was no traffic light.

Brown died from his injuries sustained in the crash.

Brown's death was the first reported fatality using self-driving technology.
