In 2011, Josh Hammer graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Duke University. While there, he studied abroad at University College London.

In 2016, Hammer earned his J.D. at University of Chicago Law School.

Josh Hammer began his career as a research analyst for Rosenberg Economic Advisors.

After his first year of law school, he served as a law clerk for the staff of U.S. Senator Mike Lee. Later in his career, he worked as an associate for Kirkland & Ellis.

In 2016, Hammer passed the State Bar of Texas and has since been eligible practice law in Texas.

In January 2018, he began working as a law clerk for Judge James C. Ho the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

In January 2019, he became the Editor-at-Large of news commentary website The Daily Wire . He also became the lawyer for First Liberty Institute at this time. When making this announcement, he stated he wanted to "dedicate my professional career to being one tiny cog in the broader defense of America’s Founding ideals—and those of the West."
