Joseph Anthony Corrao is a 45-year-old resident of Orlando, Florida. He has two sons. Joeseph is an unemployed Army veteran and relies on Social Security disability benefits. He previously served six years in the U.S. Army.
Assault and Death of Pinky (Flamingo)
Joseph Corrao attacked Pinky a Chilean flamingo at Busch Gardens Tampa. Joseph Corrao picked Pinky up and threw her at the ground so hard her foot was almost completely cut off after his mother yelled at him to put Pinky down.
Pinky had to be put down after the attack due to how severe her injuries were.
Pinky was an ambassador animal for the park and was well known for her flamenco dancing.
Corrao was arrested and charged with animal cruelty and taken to jail on a $2,000 bond.
His bond was later raised to $5.000 and he is being held at Hillsborough County jail.
The judge said:
"It actually borders on depraved," "Mr. Corrao, I don't know if you have other issues.
I don't know who does that, I really don't.
I don't relate to that on any level."
The attack took place at Jambo Junction viewing area where visitors can go up to flamingos at Busch Gardens Tampa in Tampa, Florida on the evening of Tuesday August 2, 2016.
Before the attack, Joseph Corrao posted on Facebook on Monday about a trip he was taking to Tampa. His Facebook page was deleted Wednesday.
Joseph had wrote that he would be going to a Tampa Bay Rays baseball game with his two sons, and would be in box seats with “all u can drink and eat free,” adding, “i will be tepsy tonight.”
Facebook friends told Corrao to “behave himself” and “make a good impression” for his two sons. Joseph replied that “I’ve never been to jail in Tampa.”
Criminal Record
Joseph Corrao spent 3 years in prison according to Florida Department of Corrections. He was convicted of aggravated assault on a person 65 years or older, felony DUI, and fleeing from a law enforcement officer.
He was most recently released from prison in July, 2015.
