John Elifritz was an American shipyard worker who was tragically shot to death by Oregon Police inside of a homeless shelter after he was suspected of being a suspected carjacker. [undefined] [undefined] The police have yet to confirm if Elifritz was the right person of interest. [undefined]

Shooting at Cityteam Ministries Portland Shelter

In the late afternoon of April 7th, 2018, a call was made to Oregon Police concerning a carjacking that occurred in the 7500 block of Southeast Knight Street.
Witnesses indicate that a suspect got inside of a vehicle during a traffic light, and threatened the driver to get out of the car.
About three hours later, a crash occurred on Southeast Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Stark Street.
[undefined] Police say that the suspect fled the site of the crash and entered the Cityteam Ministries Portland Shelter on 526 Southeast Grand Avenue.
Witnesses say a man entered the shelter during an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. The man whipped out a knife and began to cut himself in different areas - witnesses say he was attempting to kill himself. [undefined] [undefined]
The cops came inside of the building and began to clear people out.
A video was taken of the moments when the police shot a man multiple times the suspected to be the carjacker/suspect in question.
The man was later confirmed dead.
Law enforcement have not confirmed whether they shot the right man - John Elifritz.
The cops who shot Elifritz were paid on administrative leave.
An investigation by Law enforcement officials into the shooting has been launched.
