Death
On March 11, 2017 - just over three months after tweeting that she wrote a letter to only be read at her funeral - Jocelyn died in an alcohol-related car accident in Pinellas County, Florida. Florida Highway Patrol investigators say a 2008 Dodge Caliber ran a red light at the intersection of Curlew Road and McMullen Booth Road and crashed into a pickup truck (a 2003 Ford F-250) at 12:58 a.m. The crash shut down part of the road until 6:35 a.m.
Before she died, she tweeted:
"I'm gonna write a letter to everyone if anything was to ever happen to me and put it in my room, read it only at my funeral**." "It's going to be under my mattress don't forget."
Jocelyn was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say that Schirmer was a passenger in the car and that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Dodger Caliber, 18-year-old Donavan Patterson, is seriously injured, while the other three passengers in the car are in serious condition.
The three other passengers include two 15-year-old girls Kianna Diaz of Riverview, Jayla Simpson of Pinellas Park, Paul "P.J." Schirmer (Jocelyn's brother Paul).
The driver of the pickup truck, 22-year-old Dalton Cox was also seriously injured.
His two passengers, 21-year-old Megan Bortolis of Palm Harbor and 23-year-old Victoria Rowe of Dunedin suffered minor injuries.
Aftermath
It has been reported that Jocelyn wanted Donavan (the driver) to stop the car so she could get out.
According to a WTSP report, Grimalde Andrade (Jocelyn Schirmer's grandmother) heard from her brother P.J. that the car was driving on the wrong side of the road at one point.
Her grandmother created a GoFundMe was made to help raise money for Jocelyn's funeral.
Arrest
On December 7, 2016, Jocelyn Schirmer was arrested on three counts: burglary, possession of alprazolam, (that she had a prescription for)
