Jessica McBride is an American Journalist, Columnist and Journalism Instructor who works as a Freelance reporter at News and Informational website, Heavy.com based in New York City, United States. [1]
Early Life
Jessica was born and brought up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She comes from family having news and Journalism background.
Education
She completed High School diploma from Flambeau High School - Tony, Wisconsin in 1988. She was a class Salutatorian. She also won a US Army National Award and also participated in all conference volleyball. She went to the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Print and Broadcast Journalism in 1992. She completed post graduation with Master's degree a in Mass Communication in 1993.[2]
Career
Journalist
Jessica's Journalism career started when she was in college. While studying in college, She worked part time as Suburban reporter from May 1992 to May 1993 at the Milwaukee Journal - Milwaukee, Wisconsin .
She then joined at Waukesha Freeman - Waukesha, Wisconsin as a full time reporter in 1993. She left this job to serve as a full time General Assignment and crime reporter at Wisconsin’s largest newspaper, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Milwaukee, WI in august 1994.[14] She spent years as an award-winning reporter at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. She switched to teaching career in 2000.[3]
She joined News network of hyper local news sites, Patch Media in 2012. She worked as a fill in Editor for various metropolitan Milwaukee area Patch.com online news sites.
She successfully handled photography, reporting, writing, copy editing, and social media for sites in communities ranging from Whitefish Bay to Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin until Patch discontinued its Wisconsin sites.
She started working as a Freelancer in 2014. She worked as a freelance columnist and reporter for Milwaukee's Daily Magazine, OnMilwaukee.com. She covered current events columns and periodically news stories.[7]
Apart from News and Information Networks, her work has also appeared on various other media platforms like Discovery Channel, History (U.S. TV channel), Japanese and German television, Oxygen (TV channel), WTMJ 620 AM, Channel 4, Channel 58, Reader's Digest, Twist (magazine), Wisconsin Public Radio, BBC, Wisconsin Policy Research Institute ,, Milwaukee Magazine, Wispolitics.com and others.[3]
Educator
In 2000, She joined University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee to work as an Ad-hoc Lecturer and taught news reporting each semester. She was promoted in 2004 and She is working as a Senior Lecturer over 16 years till now. She Supervised as many as 6 teaching assistants. She teaches and develop curriculum in the Journalism, Advertising, and Media Studies \Department, including courses and topics, such as: Integrated Reporting, Advanced Integrated Reporting, Opinion Writing, Race and Ethnicity in the Media and many more.
She has achieved many milestones in her teaching career.
She is Founder of the Minority Media Association of UWM and co-founder of Media Milwaukee, the department's award-winning online news site.
She created the department's first Living Learning Community.
She attended and participated in many worldwide conferences..
Her scholarly research presented at international conferences in South Africa, Australia, and Belgium. Her work is published in prestigious Australian Journal.
She also helped develop guidelines on social media for international journalism educators through the World Journalism Education Congress, 2010 and 2013.
She presented research, "Using Blog Talk Radio in the Classroom" at Convergence and Society: The Participatory Web, University of South Carolina in 2008.[3]
