Jessi Smiles (born August 17 1993) is the social media moniker of Jessica Vazquez, a YouTube Star from Miami, Florida.
Career
Jessi's YouTube channel is named JessiSmiles and she posts storytime videos, Q&A videos, conspiracy theory videos and music videos, among others. She has also collaborated with many other YouTubers, such as KathleenLights, and portrayed Joan of Arc in the episode "Miley Cyrus vs Joan of Arc" of the web series Epic Rap Battles of History.[6] She is also a singer-songwriter and has released singles like "What If I"[7] and "Bitch, Please!"[8] on her YouTube channel and on iTunes. She occasionally collaborates with her brother Joey, releasing a music video titled "Learn To Love" on her channel.[9] As of June 2019, she has over 902k subscribers on YouTube.[2]
As a social media celebrity, she has been endorsed by brands like Wendy's, Boost Mobile and American Eagle Outfitters. She has also appeared as herself on the shows like "True Life", "Good Day L.A." and "Do It for the Vine". She was a finalist of the 9th Shorty Awards in the category of YouTube Comedian.[10]
Jessi runs another YouTube channel dedicated to makeup and beauty videos named JessiStyles.[5]
As a teenager, she worked as a makeup artist and learned about Vine platform from a model. Jessi found the platform fitting for her personality, and managed to gain fame and popularize the platform through her humorous skits. She posted her first vine titled "I don't want to go!!!!!!" on May 21, 2013, and had amassed more than 3.6M followers and 470M total loops on the app by the time it shut down.[3]
Personal Life
Jessi was born in Miami, Florida on August 17, 1993 in a Cuban-American family. Her father Rubin, a technician for AT&T and her mother Christina divorced when she was a baby. After her mother remarried, she and her brother Joey started living with their stepfather Joe Ferrero, a TV and radio personality. She has three stepbrothers, one of whom is autistic.[2]
As as a teenager, she suffered from anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, and oppositional defiant disorder and could not fit in with the students in her high school. She was homeschooled for her senior year.[2]
She would eventually be involved in a series of dysfunctional relationships.
However, her relationship with Curtis Lepore was the most controversial; within a few days of their meeting, they started dating and subsequently broke up. She had also alleged that he raped her while she was asleep. The rape charges were soon dropped after Curtis leaded guilty to felony assault, and after one year, charges were reduced to a misdemeanor.[11]
In late 2016, Jessi met her husband Nassim Ssimou by chance outside of a gay club in Los Angeles, California. They married in 2017 and she gave birth to a son named Noah in August 2017.[2]
Jessi also owns a dog named Hershey and a cat named Jasmine.[2]
