Shooting of Philando Castile
On July 6, 2016 Yanez and another officer, Joseph Kauser were involved in the fatal shooting of Philando Castile. [undefined] Castile's death after being shot was recorded on Facebook live by his girlfriend, Lavish Reynolds. [1] [undefined]
The incident occurred after Castile and his girlfriend were stopped by the officers in Falcon Heights, Minnesota for a broken tail light. [1]
According to Reynolds, Castile was “licensed to carry” and was “trying to get out his ID” and “he let the officer know he had a firearm, and he was reaching for his wallet, and then Yanez shot him, striking him multiple times.

Investigation
Both officers were placed on paid administrative leave while the shooting was investigated.

On July 13, 2016 Hennepin County Medical Examiner ruled the death of Philando Castile a homicide.
In November 2016, Yanez was charged with Manslaughter and two felony counts of intentional discharge of a dangerous weapon. “No reasonable officer — knowing, seeing and hearing what Officer Yanez did at the time — would have used deadly force under these circumstances,” the Ramsey County attorney, John J.
