James Austin Hancock was a freshman at Madison High School (Madison, Ohio). In February 2016, he fired 6 rounds and shot 2 students at the cafeteria. ^[undefined] Eye-witnesses say he had a smirk on his face while he was shooting. ^[1]4 students were injured, but none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

Hancock is on the school's wrestling team.

Hancock’s great grandfather was an avid hunter, life member of National Rifle Association and a Republican National Committee contributor.
