Iana Kasian
Iana Kasian was a 30 year old woman originally from Ukraine and living in Los Angeles, California. Iana was the ex-girlfriend of Blake Leibel. Iana had moved to Los Angeles from Ukraine in 2014. [1]
Iana moved in with Blake Leibel in 2015. On May 3, Iana had her first child and her mother, Olga moved to Los Angeles, California.
Iana left Blake Leibel on May 20, 2016 after he was arrested for raping another woman and moved with her baby to her mother, Olga's apartment.
Death
Iana was tortured and killed by Blake Leibel sometime between May 23- May 26, 2016. n a seemingly deliberate attempt to mix reality with fantasy, as in the Syndrome a story Blake wrote, Iana was drained of all blood - and had received what authorities described as sustained blunt force head trauma.
On Tuesday May 31, 2016, prosecutors charged Leibel with murder, torture, mayhem and aggravated mayhem.
“Kasian was tortured and mutilated before she was killed and all of her blood was drained from her body,” said Deputy District Attorney Tannaz Mokayef, in a press release.
At 1:00 A.M. Los Angeles time the next morning, Evgenia, Iana's sister who lives in Ukraine, missed a call from Kasian’s cell phone. She tried to phone back right away but no one picked up. That was the last living sign she had of her sister. [1]
When Iana didn’t come back the night of Tuesday May 24, 2016, her mother Olga went to Leibel’s apartment and banged on the door.
Nobody answered.
She went back Wednesday morning.
But again, no one came the door.
Olga then contacted the Los Angeles Police at the L.A. Sheriff’s department first told her to find a Russian-speaking translator, then eventually agreed to accompany her to Leibel’s apartment. The officers knocked on the door and called out to whoever was inside but here was no answer and they heard no sounds of distress. [1]
The next morning, she called the Ukrainian consulate in San Francisco, California and asked that they call the police. [1]
Inside the unit, in a bedroom, deputies found Kasian.
Asked to describe the scene, Los Angeles Police Officer Rodriguez said “There was just, you know, a lot of blood,”. [1]
