On 31 January 2018 Katebi was invited on to WGN Morning News to ostensibly discuss her life and work. The conversation took an unexpected turn when co-anchor Larry Potash asked Katebi about nuclear program of Iran. After Katebi proceeded to detail the history of American interventionism (politics) in the Middle East, co-anchor Robin Baumgartner responded to Katebi by saying "You do not sound American." The interview went viral after Katebi posted it to her blog on 10 February and attracted international attention due to the perceived xenophobia and Islamophobia of the anchors as well as Katebi's composure in answering their questions. Baumgartner and Potash have since apologized to Katebi. [1] [6] [7] [13]
