Arrest

On August 8, 2017, neighbors checking out a noise Tuesday found a 12-to-16-month-old girl whose feet were sticking out of the bag.

[0]They called 911 and tended to the child until police and emergency crews arrived.

[0] [1] The baby was taken to a hospital in stable condition. Authorities were able to determine that Hoyt was the mother of the baby found after extensive interviews with neighbors. [1] [0]

Later Tuesday, police charged Hoyt with attempted murder. [0] [1]

Hoyt was arraigned in Elmira City Court on August 8, 2017, she was sent to the Chemung County Jail on $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond. Because of Hoyt's age, the court will have to decide whether she will be tried as an adult or minor. [0] [1]

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday, August 14, 2017 in Elmira City Court.
