During the wee hours of October 14th, 2017, at around 4:00 a.m., Harleen was on her way home after having finished working an event late at night, and rode in the passenger side of a vehicle driven by Saeed Ahmad.
Ahmad weaved in and out of traffic on the westbound side of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway when his 2007 Infiniti G35 sedan hit the median in the left lane. The car spun out of control near the Prospect Expressway and when it finally stopped facing on-coming traffic, the
car slowly went up in flames.
Several accounts allege that Ahmad went out of his car without helping Harleen get out of the burning vehicle.
Instead, Ahmad got inside of a cab that took him to Maimonides Hospital.
At the hospital, he was arrested by the police on charges of manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and speeding.
The brother of Ahmaad has stated that he tried to save her, and that it was too late - he headed to the hospital to treat the burning wounds on his arms.
