Gov. Alfonso D. Tan College is founded on 1984.

^[1] Governor Alfonso D.Tan College started as Tangub City College.

It was born during the incumbency of the late Mayor Alfonso D. Tan of Tangub City.

The sympathetic mayor saw the inability of many of his constituents to send their children to colleges in Ozamiz City due to rising cost of tuition fees and other related expenses.

He thought of a simple solution: let the city government operate a college, which offers popular courses at affordable rates.

That vision was acted upon instantly.

By virtue of City Ordinance No. 15 entitled “An Ordinance Providing for the Establishment and Maintenance of a City College in Tangub City” otherwise known as Tangub City College Charter of 1984, the college opened its doors on June 1, 1984 to more than 200 pioneering students enrolled in the initial course offerings of Bachelor of Arts, Junior Secretarial Course and General Midwifery.

As provided in the charter, the College is to be governed by a Board of Trustees.

Mayor Alfonso D. Tan was the first to hold the office of the President and Chairman along with the pioneering board members in the persons of Judge Vicente Baz Jr., Fiscal Resurrection Inting, Vice-Mayor Geofredo Ymalay, and Mr. Liberto Hera.

The College flourished with more and more students from different places discovering the school and new and qualified instructors joining the college.

The library’s volume of books kept on increasing through solicitation from embassies and private persons.

This resulted to the eventual certification of the library as having complied with the DECS requirements.

In 1992, Mayor Philip T. Tan, nephew of GADTC’s founder was elected as mayor.

As new President of the College, he vowed to improve the College’s facilities and to raise the standards of the school.

Computer units were purchased and computer instructors were hired to teach and to upgrade the College’s standing in terms of modernization.

More books were purchased and placed in the library and more laboratory equipment were procured.

A heavy duty photocopier was also bought to serve students’ needs.

These are all evidences that GADTC’s front liners worked so hard to uplift the College standing and to really make it the center of learning in the South.

In 1996, a most welcome development took place.

With the addition of more computer units, the college passed the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) evaluation qualifying it to offer two 2-year computer courses, namely, Computer Business Technology and Computer System Design and Programming.

In addition, Computer Secretarial Course was also offered.

Consequently, the enrolment zoomed up to more than 1,000.

Through the efforts of Mayor Philip T. Tan, Tangub City won the bid to hold the Palarong Pampook 1997.

GADTC being housed in the Sports Complex had a year of construction fever that resulted in the face lifting of the building, premises, grounds and sports venues.

After the games and while waiting for the new building to be created, GADTMC welcomes its new batch of students.

From 1997 up to present, myriads of accomplishments have been achieved by GADTMC.

Presently, Hon. Jennifer W. Tan heads the college.

A new building though still in the process of construction has now risen.

An ROTC office and a new ROTC unit has been created for GADTC.

Board passers in Education soared and other achievements were garnered.

The number of instructors increased and enrolment has been high allowing a healthy economic and intellectual activity in Tangub.

GADTC indeed at this time has lived to our expectation as the light and hope of Panguil Bay.

Though it may be sad, lonely and melancholic to say goodbye to GADTMC but its new name GADTC (Gov. Alfonso D. Tan College) shall be a blessing for it to shine and soar forever as it educates those who would fly under her wings!
