Arrest
In November 2016, Chalmers was arrested.
The Argos Taskforce, a special branch of the police in Queensland responsible for the investigation of online child exploitation and abuse, raided his home and arrested him on a string of child sex offenses after a tip-off from German and US authorities.
He was refused bail.
Further Investigation
After his arrest in November 2016, Queensland police did a full examination of his laptop to uncover the full scale of his offenses.
It is claimed that, since 2007, Chalmers has been posing as Justin Bieber on social platforms including Facebook and Skype to groom victims; there were roughly 123,000 Skype conversations in total on his laptop. He persuaded many Justin Bieber fans to send him explicit images of themselves.
As a result, he was charged with an additional 931 child sex offenses, including indecent treatment of children, making child exploitation material, using a carriage service to procure person under 16, and using a carriage service for child pornography material.
Chalmers is due back in court in Brisbane on April 6.
