Gold Toilet (Blenheim Palace)
Gold Toilet (Blenheim Palace)
The Gold Toilet in Blenheim Palace refers to a toilet in Blenheim Palace in Woodstock Oxfordshire, England. The fully functioning toilet was installed in a room next to the one in which Winston Churchill was born.
The toilet, titled "America" is made of 18-carat gold and is valued at approximately $6 million.[5]
History
Blenheim Palace is a World Heritage Site and the birthplace of former British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill.
"America" first went on display at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City in 2016. The piece made headlines again when US President Donald Trump's White House emailed the museum asking to borrow Vincent Van Gogh's painting "Landscape with Snow" and instead the curator offered the gold toilet.[5]
Theft
In the early morning hours of September 14, 2019, it was reported that the gold toilet was stolen.
The thieves ripped the functioning toilet from its plumbing, causing flooding at the Oxfordshire palace.
Authorities are in search of a blue Volkswagen Golf R.[1]
