The team behind GOAT originally worked on an app called GrubWithUs, that would allow users to eat with strangers. After the app didn't take off, GrubWithUs pivoted to GOAT, a sneaker marketplace. [3] The GOAT app was officially launched in 2015.

On August 29, 2016, GOAT received $5 million dollars in funding from a Series A round ; Matrix Partners was the lead investor.[7]

On February 7, 2017, they received $25 million in a Series B round, led by Accel Partners, in an effort to expand its marketplace .[7] [5]

On February 8, 2018, they received $60 million in a Series C round, led by Index Ventures.[7]

On February 7, 2019, GOAT Group received $100 million from Foot Locker in a corporate round.[7]
