Early Life and Education

Gideon is originally from Watchung, New Jersey and graduated from the Pingry School. Gideon completed his undergraduate education at Stanford University. [1] He was a Fullbright scholar in 2007-2008 and spent his year in Berlin. [1]

[1] He is the author of the digressive travel memoir A Sense of Direction as well as the Kindle Single No Exit. [1] is a writer at large at the New York Times Magazine, a contributing editor at Harper's Magazine , and a contributing writer at Wired Magazine . [1] Gideon co-edited, with Arnie Eisen, Philip Rieff's Sacred Order/Social Order III, and edited Richard Rorty's Philosophy as Cultural Politics. [1]

Gideon teaches nonfiction in the Graduate Writing Program at Columbia University. [1]

Gideon has lived in San Francisco, Berlin, and Shanghai. [1] He now resides in Brooklyn with his wife and son. [1]
