George was also a volunteer firefighter with the Republic Volunteer Fire Department in Redstone Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. [1]
Murder
On November 27, 2016 George Matis Jr. fatally shot a 16-year old junior firefighter inside the Republic Volunteer Fire Department.
Officials with the Republic Volunteer Fire Company confirmed that the victim was a 16-year-old junior firefighter who was a sophomore at Brownsville Area High School. Pennsylvania State Police said George A. Matis, 21, of Republic, was charged with criminal homicide in connection with the shooting. Matis was arraigned and taken to the Fayette County Jail pending a preliminary hearing. Officials said there were other people in the firehouse at the time, preparing for the town's Light Up Night, which was canceled.
