future modern builderberg

future modern builderberg (sometimes stylized by the last word as BVILDRBRG) is an interdisciplinary cooperative network, school of thought, and social movement. It was founded in May 2015 by Chibu Ichiban to unify cultural and technological advancement toward decentralizing power and wealth. across various socially impactful industries, they advance radically equitable modes of exchange, ownership, and governance made possible by next-generation information technologies such as distributed ledger and machine learning.

Origin

Ichiban conceived of Future Modern in May 2015 while attending Lightning in a Bottle musical festival. He was inspired by event's emphasis on communal participation, particularly the organized friend groups, called "tribes", that would erect ornate camp setups as spaces to share their art and discuss their fields of interest. Realizing that many of his own friends and colleagues shared this ethos of collaborative, democratic production, he began organizing their own tribe that would bring decentralization directly to peer communities.

Purpose

The need decentralizing.

future modern targets industries, institutions, economies, and networks, that young, femme, Black and brown, and working people can leverage at the greatest advantage to gain more power and wealth as groups.

these include the creative and cultural industries, urban cores, and the cannabis industry. they largely focus on driving adoption of peer to peer and open source culture and technology in these systems as a means of ensuring their maximal socioeconomic equity, through grassroots engagement and people-friendly development and design of products and services. The movement formed in response to peer-to-peer's slowness to gain widespread traction. It attributes this slowness largely to their not directly serving and marketing to those who need such systems the most, namely under-resourced individuals and communities.

The organization therefore focuses on including, and in fact prioritizing, marginalized communities and independent contributors in the production and consumption of the projects it advances.

It considers these people the "thread(s) that will weave decentralized systems to the fabric of everyday society ".

Profile

future modern operates as the first cross-sector, high-tech worker co-op network based on the US.

Members of future modern hail from every socioeconomic, educational, and professional background.

They practice nearly every discipline and medium of art and science, with decades of combined education and industry experience at such top institutions as

future modern represent and affiliate with many pioneering Internet artists, including a number of the first successful rappers on Soundcloud.

These artists have joined many bigger names, including Mat Dryhurst, Imogen Heap, and G Eazy [1], in publicly advocating for decentralized systems such as blockchains for distributing music and other digitizable content, citing more creative control, increased consumer access, and the ability to support artists directly without advertisements or other intermediaries.

Several Future Modern artists have released content on blockchain-based applications or accepted cryptocurrency in exchange for their work.

Projects

Here's a brief description of a few of Builderberg's initial projects.

aeria

future modern's flagship product, aeria, is currently under development. It is the first open source, interactive network visualization of the Social web. Dubbed the "Waze for social media", the project will transform searching for relevant content, identifying target markets and trends, and discovering and validating opportunities into an interactive, immersive, intuitive experience by visually charting the connected structure of online communities at varying scales. Wikiverse is as similar project for visually mapping the connected structure of Wikipedia articles.

aeria hypothesizes that making big data analytics for content delivery and creative strategy more accessible to individuals without large marketing budgets or technical backgrounds will greatly increase the likelihood of success for serious, talented creators who lack strong industry ties or corporate backing.

It aims to make it 10x more likely for such artists to get noticed and ultimately sustain themselves through their work, since they and their likely supporters will find each other more efficiently.

Ultimately, Future Modern plans to integrate Aeria with decentralized applications, or dapps, for content sharing.

Aeria would act as an intelligence layer for the underlying content blockchain.

With this artists and supporters could not only intelligently discover and market content but also distribute it directly peer-to-peer without publishers or streaming platforms as middlemen.

Aeria has discussed integration with such blockchain content sharing networks as Audius (Blockchain), Resonate Coop, Current Media and PopChest.

e-state

future modern has begun development on a decentralized application through which long-time residents can tokenize and invest in their own neighborhoods, so that they stand to benefit from urban renewal instead of facing displacement from it. The dapp provides tools for people to canvass, organize, and govern their communities to combat the negative effects of gentrification and speculation in their neighborhoods.

gr0und (Ground Zero)

In alignment with its core values of digital autonomy, Future Modern has pledged to use only open-source software and Internet services for all its operations by the end of 2020.

This suite of carefully vetted open-source alternatives include services for social networking, team communication, file sharing and collaborating document editing, and more.

They will all run on future modern's own hardware or peer-to-peer compute resources.

The entire computing system is referred to as "gr0und", pronounced "ground zero" or simply "ground".

Through its outreach programs, Future Modern facilitates the migration of influential online communities from proprietary platforms to these open-source alternatives, toward catalyzing widespread acceptance and adoption.

Outreach

Future Modern attends and organizes transformational festivals and other community-based gatherings to network and spread ideas around DIY culture.

Festivals

Numerous members of the Future Modern tribe attended Symbiosis 2016 as well as Oregon Eclipse 2017.

In 2016, they camped in a homemade 8' + 8' stretch "H12" hexayurt to raise awareness for DIY sustainable housing.

Construction of the hexayurt took place at 23b, a storied hackerspace in Fullerton, CA.

Events

On November 5th, 2016, Future Modern threw a warehouse party in downtown Los Angeles, CA celebrating co-founding member and rapper / PharmD Big Baby Gandhi's newly acquired American citizenship, as well as protesting Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, which drew ire for its criticism of immigrants. Entitled "Fuck Donald Trump", the party featured an appearance by Gandhi and sets from DJs Wavy Baby and Two Stacks. The event drew controversy for charging White people $5 for entry while admitting any person of color for free, eventually getting shut down by police.
