On January 6, 2017, a mass shooting took place at Ft. Lauderdale Airport. [11]

At least 5 people died and as many as 9 others were injured.

Airport Shooting
The shooter is reportedly in custody.
The shooter of the airport has been identified as Esteban Santiago. Reports of airline delays were widespread. [12]
A few hours after the shooting took place, the governor of Florida arrived to give a press conference. He announced that he was in touch with Donald Trump and Mike Pence whom have said that they would help the state of Florida with whatever he needs. He communicated to the press that his people will be preparing all the details to be shared with the public, and that there was only one shooter.
He said that Barack Obama has not been in communication with him. [6]
