In February 2019, Esplin received public scrutiny for posting images on social media of a mountain lion she killed.

On February 21, 2019, conservation group Prairie Protection Colorado (PPC) posted the photos of Esplin to their Facebook.

The organization shared the photos in an effort to gain signatures to raise awareness for a citizens’petition to ban bobcat hunting in Colorado.
