History
Origin of Food52
Food52 was founded in a Brooklyn apartment in 2009 by Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs.
The co-founder met while Hesser was working on a cookbook entitled The Essential New York Times Cookbook.
She tested over 1400 recipes with Stubbs.
While doing so, they shot videos together and uploaded them to YouTube.
The origin of Food52's name is based on the company's concept of bringing recipes together for all 52 weeks of the year.
Each week, the team selects categories that go into a cookbook.
Once they announce a category, the community sends in recipes that fits the category for that week.
The Food52 team then selects the best ones and prepare them each week.
After that, the community decides which recipe wins that week.
When a winner is selected, the recipe will be placed into a cookbook for that year.
