Good Samaritan Award
On May 22nd, 2014, Ethan, along with a friend, Taylor Davis, saved the life of a 12-year old girl who accidentally fell onto a sharp rock which sliced open her chest, just missing her jugular vein and heart.
She attempted to run home yelling for help as she kept bleeding profusely, but Ethan and his friend helped her calm down.
He used his basic first aid training he learned as a scout by taking her pulse and stopping the bleeding as Davis ran for help.
EMT arrived and transported her to the local hospital.
Ethan was interviewed, and said: “I knew it would get her heart rate up and more blood would be flowing if she ran home,” Riozzi-Bodine said.
“A lot of it was reflex; we tried to calm her down and when I saw her chest I knew it was the real thing.”
The presence of Ethan's care-taking of Hannah Peters with his soothing words and monitoring her wound while waiting for EMT to arrive had kept her alive.
The young girl's wound measured seven inches long and three inches deep - she received 20 stitches.
Near Death by Lightning
On July 26th, 2016, Ethan was nearly struck by lightning.
The only reason that he didn't get fully struck by lightning is because he held onto his bike which helped him be grounded due to the rubber tires.
[9]The lightning struck a few feet away from where he was recording the video of the storm.
[3]He was about to embark on his destination back home when then the chain on his bike broke.
The lightning strike happened near Bradley Beach, New Jersey where he also works as a lifeguard.
Ethan left the beach unscathed and without serious injuries when the lightning striker happened.
Yet, the doctors have said that his system was full of the Enzyme Creatine frequently found in heart attack victims.
