Election Day Protests at UCLA November 8-9 2016
The night of the 2016 US Presidential election students from UCLA marched in protest down Gayley towards Wilshere in the Westwood neighborhood in an attempt to block the intersection of Wilshere and possibly the 405 Freeway entrance.
The march was a protest against Donald Trump winning the presidential election.
Students marched around the perimeter of Gayley toward Wilshere and turned back on Veteran ave.
Only a few students climbed on building and trees.
Others lit up a Trump looking doll on fire by thrashing it into a trash can.
There were other students during the march that also had a piñata of Trump and lit it on fire.
The students chanted in unison: "Fuck Donald Trump" and exercised their first amendment rights.
Los Angeles Police Department estimates 3,000 students were involved in the protest.
The students eventually headed back home after cops blocked areas near Westwood blvd and Broxton.
Statements by students:
Simon Hirschfield, first year pre-med student, said nobody thought Trump would get elected.
“Nobody would accept a bigot to lead the greatest country in the world”.
Cynthia Barrales, a first-year linguistics student, admitted her indignation against a Trump presidency.
“We’re pissed,” She said.
“It feels like we’re cheated somehow.
He’s a horrible person that doesn’t deserve this title.”
Melissa Tapia, a first-year political science student, did not cry due to the results of the elections, instead she allowed her curiosity to set the path of joining the march.
“I was mad,” Tapia said.
“I just went out to see what was out there.”
