Easy Life (band)

Easy Life (band)

Easy Life are a British multi-instrumental five-piece band with a musical style that's hard to pin down.

Group founder Murray explained the name in Ventsmagazine: [1][4]

"Living is proving to be increasingly difficult with all the pressures that modern life brings, and easy life rejects this materialistic philosophy; easy life is a hedonistic vision.

When we coined the name there was a lot less thinking involved, but it feels like we have embodied the name over time rather than setting out from day one knowing exactly what it is we were looking for."

Overview

The group comes out of Leicester and the lineup consists of: [2]

-****** Olly Cassidy** on drums

-** Lewis Berry** on guitar and bass

-** Sam Hewitt** on sax, bass, and vocals

-** Jordan Birtles** on keys, percussion, sax, and vocals

-** Murray Matravers** on keys, trumpet, and vocals

Murray is the founder of the group and was raised on a Leicestershire farm run by his parents.

He describes Easy Life as a way to escape the mundanity of living in the Midlands.

They signed to Chess Club Records in 2017 and their single "Pockets" from their first mixtape* Creature Habits* was a hit, the band broke it down as: [3][5]

"93 BPM head-nodder born out of the need to give a middle finger to those people who don't believe in simplicity, and are only concerned with material wealth and all other vices that have made modern living that little bit less sweet.

It essentially documents that terrible sinking feeling of realising you can't quite afford to pay this month's rent due to your own stupidity; an unsettling emotion that is unshakable, too familiar and hangs over us like a dead albatross."

In 2018 they had the chance to play on the popular BBC music show, "Later... with Jools Holland".

Onestowatch describes their sound as the "optimistic gospel-rap of Chance the Rapper, scattergun storytelling of Arctic Monkeys, electronic invention of Glass Animals and velvety vibes of vintage Dilla." In 2018 they signed to Island Records and released "Frank", "Temporary Love Pt 1", "Temporary Love Pt 2", and their* Spaceships Mixtape.
