Career
Dov Katz became the Head of Computer Vision at Oculus VR, Inc. in July, 2014 right before the acquisition of the company by Facebook for $2 billion on July 21, 2014. He started at Oculus in March, 2013 as a Senior Vision Engineer. In this role he developed a head tracking solution for Oculus' HMD. [0]
Prior to joining Oculus, Dov worked as a Postdoctoral fellow at Carnegie Mellon from 2011-2013. In this role he designed computer vision algorithms for robotic manipulation in human environments an developed a lifelong learning approach to perception. [0]
He also worked as a research assistant in the robotics lab at University of Massachusetts Amherst from 2005 to 2011. [0]
From 2001-2005 Dov worked as a Software engineer at Zend Technologies. At Zend he developed software for Unix server-side installations of the company's products. [0]
Education
Dov Katz graduated from University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Doctor of Philosophy in 2011 and a Master of Science in 2008 in Robotics, Computer Vision, Machine learning, and Artificial intelligence. [0]
In 2004 he graduated from Tel Aviv University with a Bachelor of Science of Computer science and Electrical engineering and Electronics Engineering. [0]
Underage Sex Arrest
On December 23, 2016 Dov was arrested in a sting by Seattle Police for soliciting sex from a 15-year-old girl using the site Backpage. The 38-year-old tech exec allegedly attempted to contact what he believed to be was a 15-year-old girl for sex. The fictitious 15-year-old was actually an undercover police officer with the Tukwila Police Department, a city just south of Seattle. [1]
The news was first reported by KING 5, which said that Katz was arrested by Tukwila Police on Wednesday.
Katz is to be arraigned on January 5th, and bail was set at $125,000.
Katz is forbidden to have contact with any minors, except in the presence of a responsible adult, according to charging documents.
Katz allegedly responded to an online advertisement that offered sex in exchange for money, an ad which was posted by undercover police officer posing as a 15-year-old girl.
Katz allegedly arranged a meeting at the Embassy Suites in Tukwila, Washington, offering to pay $350 to have unprotected sex without a condom. When Katz arrived at the hotel with $600 in cash, he was arrested by police. [1]
Upon his arrest, Katz told the officer that he was there to rescue the girl, and should have first called police, according to charging documents.
