Controversies
2013 House Party Racist/Misogyny Accusation
The photo that was thrown around when he made the gangster symbols.
Since a racist incident that occurred at a Pi Kappa Phi frat party in 2013, students, leaders, and members of organizations have associated Danny of being a part of it, despite his denial of involvement. One student claimed that Danny has even gone far as to get women of color to deny the rumors. Many of the accusations are unfounded and irresponsibly directed toward Danny.
Gang Sign
The moment when Danny was accused of being racist by a black student during a meeting with USAC.
In early May, 2017, a photo of Siegel began circulating around Social media, particularly on Facebook, where he throws gang symbols with his fingers. UCLA student Robert Gardner posted the photo with a critique, causing it to go viral. Other groups and clubs on campus including The Afrikan Student Union, saw the photo and began using it as evidence of the racism that pulsates the student body. The gang symbol with his fingers appeared as insensitive to African Americans as he has never experienced growing up in a neighborhood full of gang violence.
Due to the overgrowing opposition amongst the students, Danny took to his Facebook to write a lengthy apology, transcribed below:
"I want to clarify something: there has been a photo circulating around on The moment when Danny was accused of being racist by a black student during a meeting with USAC.
social media of me throwing up a gang symbol.
I want to acknowledge this photo and how inappropriate this was of me - I owe our Bruin community an explanation.
