DJ Self is known as "The Prince of NY" as he is the Disc jockey on the radio program, Power 105.1, and has risen in popularity due to his involvement in the VH1 Reality show Love & Hip Hop: New York in the show's 6th season as a recurring cast member and guest.
Background
He has released a series of mixtapes called Drag-On - The Crazies.
New Yorkers are not the only ones who recognize Self's skills on the turntable.
Since 1998 he's taken the party to the next level in clubs and venues world wide including appearances in Berlin, London, Tokyō, Chicago, St. Louis, Seattle and throughout the East Coast.
Early Life and Career
Since 1996 DJ Self has been brining his fiery brand of Hip hop to the masses. Born and raised in Fort Greene, Brooklyn during Hip Hop's golden era, & currently holding it down in the BX, Self has risen up in the ranks of club, party, and mix tapes DJ's to emerge among the elite; and was recently rated the top 3 club DJs in New York City.
Among the noted hot spots Self has performed at are Planet Hollywood, Cheetah & Lot 61. In addition he's provided entertainment at exclusive industry events, i.e parties for King magazine, XXL Magazine, and Dons & Divas. He has also participated as a DJ for album release gatherings for Alicia Keys, Amerie, and Truth Hurts. Besides album release gatherings, he has been the DJ at birthday celebrations for Carl Thomas, Stephon Marbury, Fabulous, Tracy McGrady, Zab Judah & Mos Def.
Collaboration with Mos Def
Self's association with Mos runs deep.
Self provided the tunes at the star studded closing party for the Pulitzer Prize winning play, Topdog/Underdog (which starred Mos and Jeffrey Wright). He was the tour DJ during 2002-2003 for Mos's Black Jack Johnson and got the crowd going when Mos hosted MTV2's Hampton's party in 2003.
Touring
Self has also hit the road for Charli Baltimore, The Rap Pages Tour and been a guest on Bet's Rap City Basement and Wendy Williams' top rated radio show on WBLS.
Mixtapes
Along with his hugely successful club & party career Self is responsible for a series of mix tapes that have set the streets on fire for.
For over 7 years Self has continuously dropped jewels, selling thousands of mix tapes that feature hot exclusives from hip-hop and R&B's finest.
Among the highlights the underground classic Rawkus Mixtape and the #1 selling Lox Family Mix tape.
