Dee Ann Haney is a 54-year-old from Texas City, Texas, a community where she has spent her entire life. Well-known by the city's residents, Haney has volunteered her time at various community organizations and served as City Commissioner-atLarge for over a decade. According to her Facebook posts, she is a strong supporter of Blue Lives Matter.

During the early morning of July 3rd, Dee Ann was operating a pickup truck northbound on I-45 near the Galveston Causeway when she crashed into two men who were stopped outside their black pickup truck. The father-son duo, Van Duoc Le, 59, and Phue Hong Le, 33, were killed in the incident.

Haney suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local area hospital and later booked into Galveston County Jail.

Haney admitted to police that she was under the influence of marijuana while operating her vehicle, and has since been charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter in connection with the crash. Her bond has been set to $100,000 and is required to install a breathalyzer in her vehicle as well as prohibited from entering establishments that serve alcohol. ^[1]

An active member of her community, she is the City Commissioner-at-Large for Texas City where she serves on behalf of the city on the Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustments and Standards, the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), the Galveston County Animal Advisory Services Committee, the Galveston County Transit District Board (Chair), and the Galveston County Mayors and Council Members Association (Vice-President).

In addtion, she is a member of the Rotary Club in her city as well a member of the Board of Trustees at St. John's United Methodist Church.

Haney has used her knowledge and experience in emergency management and industrial hygiene to contribute to a variety of organizations.

She has been employed as an Emergency Management Coordinator for the United Space Alliance, the Director at Large for the Region VI VPP, and an HES Professional/Industrial Hygienist for Marathon Petroleum. Most recently, she started her own consulting business and is a Lab Saftey and Training Coordinator for Texas A&M University–Galveston.

Haney earned her Associate of Science in Physics, Biology, and Chemistry from College of the Mainland where she also participated in Phi Theta Kappa during her time there. She went on to earn her Bachelor's in Industrial Hygiene and Saftey from the University of Houston–Clear Lake and later her Master's in Technology with a Concentration in Emergency Management from Arizona State University.
