On Friday, December 29, 2017, a shooting occurred at the law offices of Perona, Langer, Beck, Serbin, Mendoza and Harrison in the 300 block of East San Antonio Drive in Bixby Knolls, Long Beach, California. Authorities confirmed two people died, including the gunman. ^{[0] [5]}

Authorities stated the man suspected in the shooting was an attorney identified as John A. Mendoza (Attorney) who had been terminated by the law firm. ^{[0] [5]}It is believed Mendoza fatally shot a partner in the firm, Major Langer, another partner, and then turned the gun on himself. ^{[0] [5]}
