David Sherrard was an American police officer serving the Richardson Police Department in Richardson, Texas.

He served the department for 14 years.

Officer Sherrard is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Death

Officer Sherrard was fatally shot February 7, 2018 while responding to a call in Richardson.

Another man was shot and killed by a 26-year-old suspect who barricaded himself inside an apartment before being taken into custody.

Officers received a call around at around 7:00 p.m. about a disturbance with shots fired at the Breckinridge Point Apartments.

When officers arrived they found the first victim, 30-year-old Rene Gamez, and began rendering aid to him.

As they began to investigate, officers were led to an apartment where the suspect, identified as Brandon De McCall, was located.

McCall immediately fired at the officers.

Sherrard was taken to Medical City Plano where he later died from his injuries.

An hours-long standoff with SWAT team members ensued before McCall taken into custody.
