On August 26, 2018 a lone gunman killed two people and injured 11 in a mass shooting at a Madden 19 tournament in Jacksonville, Florida. David Katz was first identified as the suspected shooter by Fox News reporter Rick Levanthal. Duval County Sheriff Mike Williams of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office later confirmed that David Katz was the suspected shooter.

Three were killed in the shooting (including Katz) and another nine were treated for gunshot wounds at local hospitals.

All surviving gunshot victims are in stable condition, Williams said.

He said the sheriff’s office was still working to confirm the identities of the deceased.

Katz allegedly committed the shooting after losing a game in the tournament.

The shooting occurred at the Jacksonville Landing complex during a qualifying event for the Madden 19 Tournament at the Good Luck Have Fun video game room inside a Chicago Pizza.

In a video of the shooting, competitors Wesley “Joe Rice” Gittens and Eli “True” Clayton are playing.

A red dot, apparently a laser targeting sight, can be seen on Clayton briefly before the screen drops the competitors’ images and the shooting begins.

As nine shots ring out, competitors can be heard abandoning their stations, and others are heard fleeing.

Then a man is heard crying out, “What did he shoot me with?” Three more shots are fired and screaming can be heard.

The incident is being investigated as a criminal act, and not an act of terrorism, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

While the sheriff's office has taken the lead on the case, the FBI's Jacksonville office has deployed personnel to assist local law enforcement in their investigation. The ATF is also involved in the investigation.

Madden 18 Challenge champion Drini Gjoka said he was grazed in the hand with a stray bullet hitting his thumb. Chris “Dubby” McFarland said he had been grazed in the head by a bullet but was also OK.

compLexity gave this statement confirming Gjoka was injured in the shooting.

We’re obviously shocked and saddened by this afternoon’s events.

Our player, Drini, was hit in the thumb but is going to be fine.

He managed to escape and run down the street to a nearby gym.

He’s currently cooperating with the authorities and we will be flying him out of Jacksonville as soon as we are given the green light from the officials on the ground.

Esports reporter Rod Breslau reported that oLarry2K, of Bucks Gaming in the NBA 2K League, was also wounded.

oLARRY’s mother confirmed her son was shot three times.

According to Inquisitr, Eli “TrueBoy” Clayton may have been killed in the shooting.
